Over Here: Americans at Home During WWI

April 5 - May 20 2017

This special exhibition is on loan from the National Archives and Records Administration and takes a closer look at the American war effort through photographs. The exhibition draws from the extensive photographic holdings of the National Archives to capture the patriotic fervor of draft registration, the emotional good-byes of men leaving for training camps, the “hoopla” of Liberty Loan drives, the craze for volunteerism, and the violence of vigilantism. During the “Great War,” photographs were frequently used in a variety of publications as well as in government reports and propaganda pieces. Today, these photographs serve as a valuable record of pro-war behavior, but occasionally capture dissent and unrest.
